It sequences site assessment, utility coordination, permitting, trenching, and commissioning so the long-lead items like grid capacity and permits are tracked from day one rather than surfacing as surprises near energisation.
How to customize it
- Adjust the utility phase to your local provider, service upgrade timelines vary enormously by region.
- Duplicate the civil and install rows per site if you are rolling out multiple locations.
- Add DC fast-charging rows (larger switchgear, dedicated transformer) or delete them for Level 2 only.
- Include a make-ready allowance if you are claiming utility or government incentives with their own deadlines.
- Mark utility approval, permit issue and energization as milestones, each is a hard gate.
Scheduling tips
- Apply to the utility first. The service application can usually run in parallel with detailed design; waiting until design is final adds months for no benefit.
- Confirm existing capacity early. A capacity check during site assessment decides whether you need a service upgrade at all, the single biggest fork in the schedule.
- Sequence trenching around site access. Parking-lot works often have to be staged to keep the site operating.
- Do not schedule network activation before energization. Payment and network commissioning depend on live power, and are frequently planned in parallel by mistake.
- Track incentive deadlines as milestones. Many programmes require energization by a fixed date to qualify.

How long does an EV charging station installation take?
Level 2 installations with adequate existing capacity can complete in 6-12 weeks. Projects needing a utility service upgrade commonly run 6-12 months, because the utility timeline dominates. The template shows both paths.
What is usually the longest lead item?
Utility service upgrades and transformers. Both are outside the installer's control, which is why the template gives utility coordination its own phase rather than folding it into permitting.
Does this work for a multi-site rollout?
Yes. Duplicate the site assessment, civil and commissioning rows per location and keep one shared procurement track, so you can see where sites compete for the same crews or equipment.
