What's included
The template is organized into the three 30-day phases of a classic 90-day plan, each pre-filled with example goals and a review milestone so you can adapt rather than start from scratch:
- Days 0–30 — Learn — onboarding and paperwork, meet the team and stakeholders, learn the product, systems and processes. Milestone: 30-day review.
- Days 31–60 — Contribute — take on real work and deliver a few quick wins that build credibility. Milestone: 60-day review.
- Days 61–90 — Lead — own a project end to end and start shaping direction. Milestone: 90-day review.
The three 30-day phases
The plan follows a simple arc. In the first 30 days you absorb — you're learning how the company works, who the key people are, and where the levers sit. In the second 30 days you shift from watching to doing, picking a handful of quick wins that prove you can deliver. In the final 30 days you lead, taking ownership of something meaningful. The three review milestones give you and your manager natural checkpoints to confirm you're on track and adjust the plan.
Learn / Contribute / Lead goals
Under each phase, replace the placeholder goals with your own. A strong plan mixes learning goals (understand the reporting stack), relationship goals (1:1s with every teammate), and outcome goals (ship the first improvement). Keep each phase focused — three to five goals is plenty. Because everything sits on a timeline, it's obvious when a goal is realistic for month one versus something that belongs in the Lead phase.

Tips for new hires & managers
- New hires: be specific and measurable. "Learn the codebase" is vague; "ship a small bug fix by day 20" is a quick win.
- Managers: co-own the plan. Setting clear 30-, 60- and 90-day expectations up front is one of the strongest predictors of a successful ramp.
- Both: don't overload the Learn phase. The first month is for context; leading too early usually backfires.
- Review honestly. Treat each 30-day review as a real checkpoint and adjust the next phase based on what you learned.
