What's included
A go-to-market plan fails when marketing, product, sales and pricing move on different clocks. This template puts every workstream on one timeline, in the six stages a launch actually moves through:
- Market & customer research, Define the ideal customer profile and personas, analyse the competition, and validate the problem and willingness to pay before committing to a position. Milestone: research complete.
- Positioning & messaging, Turn the research into a differentiated position and value proposition, then a messaging framework the whole team can use. Milestone: messaging approved.
- Pricing & packaging, Decide the pricing model, tiers and packaging, and build the business case and revenue targets behind them. Milestone: pricing signed off.
- Enablement & assets, Enable and train sales, build the website and landing pages, and produce the demo, collateral and documentation the launch needs. Milestone: assets ready.
- Launch, Run the internal launch and readiness check, go live externally, and fire the campaigns, PR and sales outreach together. Milestone: external launch.
- Post-launch & iterate, Measure the funnel and KPIs, gather win/loss feedback, and optimise, a launch is the start of the plan, not the end. Milestone: 30-day review.
Who uses this template
Product marketers, product managers and founders use this plan to launch a product without marketing, sales, product and pricing drifting out of sync. It suits B2B and SaaS teams taking a new product, feature or market entry from research through positioning and enablement to launch and the post-launch review.
How to customize it
- Set the launch date first and work backwards; enablement and asset production almost always need more runway than planned.
- Add a row per channel under Launch (paid, content, PR, partnerships) so each has its own owner and timing.
- If you are pre-launching to a waitlist or beta, pull the website and sign-ups earlier and gate the full launch behind readiness.
- Keep pricing on its own track, it depends on research, not on messaging, so it can run in parallel with positioning.
- Mark research, messaging, pricing and “assets ready” as milestones so no downstream workstream starts before its inputs exist.
Scheduling tips
- Positioning is on the critical path. Messaging, enablement and every asset depend on it; a week lost approving positioning pushes the whole launch, so protect it.
- Enablement is usually the bottleneck. Sales training, collateral and the demo take longer than expected and gate the launch, start them the moment messaging is approved.
- Run pricing in parallel, not in series. It only needs the research, so overlapping it with positioning buys weeks back on the schedule.
- Separate internal launch from external launch. The team needs to be ready before the market hears anything; schedule the internal go-live as its own milestone.
- Schedule the post-launch review. The 30 days after launch, funnel metrics, win/loss, iteration, are where a plan compounds or quietly stalls for lack of follow-through.

Frequently asked questions
What is a go-to-market (GTM) plan?
A go-to-market plan is the timeline and workstreams that take a product to market, research, positioning, pricing, enablement, launch and post-launch. This template lays those stages on one schedule so marketing, product and sales stay in sync.
What should a go-to-market plan include?
At minimum: ideal customer profile and research, positioning and messaging, pricing and packaging, sales enablement and assets, the launch itself, and a post-launch measurement loop. The template gives each its own phase and milestones.
Can I show dependencies between GTM workstreams?
Yes. Open the template in the free gantts.app editor to link finish-to-start relationships (research → positioning → enablement → launch) so downstream work shifts automatically and the critical path to launch stays visible.
Is the go-to-market plan template free?
Yes, free to download as Excel, PowerPoint or CSV, and free to edit online with no sign up.
